Document Description
Under the proposed alternative, LAC+USC would improve the existing medical services on campus by replacing and consolidating five primary healthcare facilities with one new (600 bed) hospital. The proposed project would consist of construction and demolition activities of the following four structures for the Medical Center: 1) 600-bed treestanding hospital; 2) diagnostic and treatment building; 3) central plant; and 4) outpatient department building. Two other alternatives, a 950 bed alternative and the no project alternative are evaluated in equal level detail in the document. The proposed hospital would respond to changing healthcare needs that are resulting in increased demand for outpatient services and decreased impatient care. The existing General Hospital would also be closed and maintained until a future use is identified. The existing Women's Hospital would also be closed and would remain vacant until a future use is identified. Potential reuse of the existing Outpatient Clinic is considered in the EA/EIR.
