Present Land Use
The Hazardous Vegetation Abatement Program would affect undeveloped parcels which are planned for development and which lie adjacent to developed parcels. Residential and tourist oriented commercial are the predominant land uses in these small mountain communities, and the zoning and general plan support these uses.
Document Description
The proposed project is aimed at reducing fire hazards associated with the accumulation of brush an vacant parcels lying adjacent developed ones. Hazardous vegetation will be selectively cleared in order to lessen the impact of wildfires. Light mechanical methods of brush removal will be used. These methods will range from hand trimming with chain saws to possibly clearing using brush hog, disk, or mower. Vegetation will be either chipped spread over the project site, or removed to a local landfill. Parcels on approximately 6,728 acres have been identified as potentially needing treatment, but the actual number that will receive treatment is not know. Treatment will be done on an as needed basis and subject to available funding.
