Document Description
The proposed program would expand CDF's ability to reduce fuel hazards by authorizing treatment options within additional vegetation types and jurisdictional areas. The goals of this program are to reduce fire hazards, suppression costs, and loss of life, property, and high-value resources and to enhance resource values by one or a combination of fuelbreak, fuel reduction zone or residential fuel treatments. Three primary techniques are proposed: prescribed fire, mechanical and hand treatment methods. The incorporated environmental checklist and mitigation-monitoring plan ensure that fuel management activities will be conducted in a manner that minimizes the impacts to: state and federally listed rare, threatened and endangered species, air and water quality, vegetation and timber resources, wetlands and riparian lands, the economic and social environment, and others. The proposed program is consistent with SB 1704, California Fire Plan (California State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection) and the California Forest Practice Rules (Title 14, CCR, Chapters 4 and 4.5)
