Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Game (Department) is executing a 1601 Stream Alteration Agreement with the Turlock Irrigation District (District) for the District's use of the Tuolumne River. The Project consists of the following: The District will restore a single channel and floodplain through the M.J. Ruddy and Warner/Deardorff segments (Phase II and III) to convey flood flows of 15,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) and allow the channel to migrate within the restored floodplain. The District will prevent salmon mortality that encroach on the wider 15,000 sfs floodway. The District will prevent salmon mortality that result from frequent connection between Tuolumne River and off-channel mining pits. The District will restore native riparian communities on appropriate geomorphic surfaces (i.e. active channel, floodplains, terraces) within the restored floodway and restore habitats for other native species. The District will remove floodway "bottlenecks" created by inadequate berms and improve flood protection for aggregate extraction operations, bridges, and other human structures. The Department entered into a 1601 Stream Alteration Agreement with the District to ensure that appropriate measures for wildlife monitoring and protection, vegetation protection, and erosion control are implemented throughout the Project. The project period is from the execution of the Agreement through five years.
