Document Description
The Project, as approved by CDFW on Dec. 21, 2011 and as first amended on Jan. 23, 2013 involves the installation of a 12-inch underground water pipeline within the 30-foot right-of-way easement of Ward Avenue. The project permanently removed 4.56 acres of Mohave ground squirrel (Xerospermophillus mohavensis) and desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) habitat. The ITP Major Amendment No. 2 referenced above, as issued by CDFW authorizes changes to the permanent loss of habitat which potentially increased the amount of direct take of Mohave ground squirrel and desert tortoise for which additional compensation is required, and includes the corresponding adjustments to the remaining acreage amount for future Indian Wells Valley Water District (Permittee) projects requiring State take authorization at the acquired Habitat Management Lands. This Major Amendment No. 2 does not result in a small change to the project footprint and increases the amount of permanently impacted Mohave ground squirrel and desert tortoise habitat from 4.56 to 6 acres.
