Document Description
The proposed project is the use of the Camray Site as a replacement borrow site for fill material needed for the construction of the North Beach Lake Levee. The location of the Camray Site is shown on the attached Figure 1. Fill material excavated from the Camray Site would replace fill material from Borrow Sites 1 and 2, as originally presented in the South Sacramento County Streams Investigation Final Environmental Impact Statement / Environmental Impact Report (FEIS/EIR). The 45.5-acre northern portion of the Camray Site would be used as the excavation area. The Camray Site is located west of Interstate 5, just north of Morrison Creek. The site, owned by County Sanitation District #1, is currently used to grow row crops.
The site contains prior converted wetlands and parts of the site drain poorly due to uneven site surface. The proposed project would include:
* stripping the topsoil from the site and temporarily storing it on-site;
* excavating up to 360,000 cubic yards of fill material from the site
and transporting it to the North Beach Levee via existing service
and levee roads;
* replacing the topsoil; and
* leveling the site.
The parcel would then be returned to agricultural use.
