Document Description
Establishment and operation of a mixed feedstock composting operation by inland composting and organic recycling. The proposed composting operation will occupy 72 acres of vacant land zoned M-1 (light industrial) and M-2 (heavy industrial). The proposed project will establish a composting facility designed to process up to 1,000 wet tons per day of green waste (including yard trimmings, wood, paper, cardboard, and recycled compost) and organic food production waste, restaurant food wastes, agricultural by-products, and 700 wet tons per day of other organic non-hazardous wastes including manure and biosolids (municipal sewage sludge) from regional wastewater treatment plants and inert materials such as soil, gypsum, and clean concrete from construction and demolition activities. The composting process will involve grinding and mixing of certain feedstocks and bulking materials and placement into windrows. The windrows will be turned a minimum of five times and maintained at or above 55 degrees Celsius during the 15 day "High Temperature" part of the composting process. Finished compost will be tested and stored on site for eventual sale as soil, amendments and other uses.
