Document Description
The Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works proposes to continue the installation and removal of four temporary summer crossings of the Russian River. One crossing is located near the town of Asti (just south of Cloverdale) and the other three are near the city of Guerneville. Installation dates are May 15 to October 15, with the exception of Asti, which is proposed to remain open until November 15 which is typically the end of fire season as determined by California Department of Forestry. The crossings consist of 60 foot temporary bridges that span most of the low flow channel and gravel roads that span the remainder of the river channel. At one crossing there is an 80 ft. permanent bridge. During installation the bridge decks are placed on permanent concrete piers with a large crane stationed on the bank of the pier. Gravel roads are then built from the end of the bridge to the opposite shore. Bulldozers and other large equipment is used for the construction of the roads. Culverts will be placed within the road way at Odd Fellows Road and Summer Crossing Road to allow fish passage and flow continuity between upstream and downstream of the project.
