Document Description
Reconfigure existing levee material from historic sewer ponds to create a single habitat island for waterfowl nesting and loafing. The island creation is one of the proposed projects identified in the Big Bear Municipal Water District's Stanfield Marsh Waterfowl Habitat Improvement Plan. The island will be approximately 55,000 square feet (1.26 acres) in area. A channel will be excavated around the island and towards the Stanfield Cutoff to allow the island to be surrounded by water, even in times of low lake levels. This excavation will move approximately 35,000 cubic yards of material, using it to construct the island. The remainder of the island will be constructed from the remnants of the existing levess with the remainder removed from the Marsh and disposed of in an upland location (approximately 32,000 cubic yards). The project will permanently impact 67,503 cubic yards of lake bottom and levee material.
