Document Description
The emergency sediment removal project requires removing 5 to 12 million cubic yards (MCY) of sediment from San Gabriel Reservoir. The project will cover a five-year period. Sediment removal requires excavation and transport to Burro Canyon Sediment Placement Site (SPS), sluicing sediment into Morris Reservoir, or a combination of both. Transporting the excavated sediment to Burro Canyon SPS will be by trucking, conveyor belt, or a combination of trucking and conveying. San Gabriel Reservoir will be completely drained if sluicing is employed, or if sediment needs to be removed from the lower area of the reservoir. Project mobilization and site preparation is anticipated to begin in 2003. Sediment removal will commence by summer 2004.
