Document Description
The proposed project activities have been reviewed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as required by the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972. The Corps finds this project to be consistent to the maximum extent practical with the articles and provisions of the CZMA and the California Coastal Act. The Coastal Commission staff previously concurred with a Negative Determination that was submitted in 2000 for a similar project in Reach 1. The Commission has also concurred with a Consistency Determination prepared in 1988 for the initial construction of the Lower Santa Ana River. The Corps has therefore determined that a Negative Determination is appropriate for the Reach 2 maintenance project, since it is essentially the same project as originally submitted for review, and is similar to previously authorized projects.
