THE COACHELLA VALLEY HAS BEEN DESIGNATED A GROUP I NONATTAINMENT AREA FOR PM10 (PARTICULATE MATTER LESS THAN 10 MICRONS IN DIAMETER). THIS MEANS THAT THE COACHELLA VALLEY HAS LESS THAN A 95 PERCENT CHANCE OF ATTAINING THE FEDERAL PM10 STANDARDS. PURSUANT TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE FEDERAL CLEAN AIR ACT, THE SCAQMD MUST PREPARE A STATE IMPLEMEN- TATION PLAN (SIP) FOR THE COACHELLA VALLEY. THIS PLAN FULFILLS THIS REQUIREMENT.
