THIS PROJECT CONSISTS OF THE CLOSURE OF THE FORMER BATERY SHOP YARD AT THE SO. PACIFIC TRANSPORTATION CO. LOCOMOTIVE WORKS IN SACTO. THE UNIT WAS USED FOR THE RECONDITIONING OF LOCOMOTIVE BATTERIES. THE SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXISTING SOIL CONTAMINATION ARE; THE DISPOSAL OF BATTERY ACID DOWN TWO DRY SUMPS LOCATED IN THE BATTERY SHOP YARD AND THE RINSING OF THE EMPTY CASES WITH WATER. RUNOFF FROM THE RINSING DRAINED ONTO THE ADJACENT SOIL.
