THE PROPOSED PROJECT INVOLVES WIDENING THE EXISTING ORANGE COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT CHANNEL (FACILITY NO. F01) FROM MESA DRIVE SOUTH TO UPPER NEWPORT BAY. THE MODIFIED CHANNEL WILL PROVIDE A 100-YEAR FLOOD PROTECTION LEVEL TO ADJACENT PROPERTIES ALON THE CHANNEL AS WELL AS ELIMINATE BACKWATER EFFECTS EPISODES. A WETLANDS RESTORATION COMPONENT IS INTENDED TO INCREASE WETLAND ACREAGE IN THE VICINITY OF THE CHANNEL OUTLET INTO UPPER NEWPORT BAY.
