THE SARAMENTO METRO FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT IS PART OF SEVERAL PROJECTS PROPOSED BY THE ARMY CORPS AND THE RECLAMATION BOARD IN RESPONSE TO INFORMATION OBTAINED ABOUT THE STATE OF FLOOD PROTECTION IN THE SACRAMENTO AREA SINCE THE FEBRUARY 1986 FLOODS. THESE PROJECTS INCLUDE THE SACRAMENTO URBAN AREA LEVEE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT AND THE AMERICAN RIVER WATERSHED INVESTIGATION IN ADDITION TO THE PROPOSED SACRAMENTO METRO AREA FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT. THE PURPOSE OF THESE PROJECTS IS TO REDUCE THE POTENTIAL FOR FLOOD DAMAGES CAUSED BY HIGH FLOWS DURING MAJOR STORM EVENTS IN SACTO AREA
