Document Description
CDFW has executed lake and streambed alteration agreement no. 1600-2015-0294-R1, pursuant to section 1602 of the fish and game code to the project applicant, Del Norte County as represented by Ms. Heidi Kunstal. The project will allow for continued breaching at Lake Earl and Lake Talawa to the Pacific Ocean under continued maintenance conducted by Del Norte County. Del Norte County proposes to continue a land management practice by periodically breaching the sandbar between Lake Earl and Lake Talawa to the Pacific Ocean when the lake surface elevation is between +8' MSL and +10' MSL during the wet season period from September 1 to February 15. A breach will occur on or about February 15th if lake levels are at +5' MSL or greater to prevent flooding conditions from occurring during the late winter and springtime, while ensuring adequate water within the lakes for aquatic and wetland habitat are sustained throughout the dry summer period. The sandbar is mechanically breached with a D8 bulldozer.
