THE CREEK IS PART OF THE INTERNAL DRAINAGE SYSTEM OF THE CENTRAL VALLEY WHICH NOW ONLY CONTRIBUTES WATER TO THE KERN LAKE BED. THE CALIENTE CREEK WATE 470 SQUARE MILES AND FLOWS IN A SANDY WASH NEARLY 1 1/4 MILES WIDE AND FOUR MILES LONG. FLOW WITHIN THE WATERSHED IS HIGHLY SEASONAL.
