The Project involves the maintenance of approximately 0.6 miles of an existing canal. Project activities include the clearing of accumulated debris from the canal using an excavator. The Project site will be accessed from Gridley Road through a gated farm road on-site. All clearing activities will be limited to the minimum area necessary to avoid unnecessary impacts. Prior to commencement, the Project will identify the current existing biological conditions through the development of a Biological Resource Assessment (BRA), conducted by Gallaway Enterprises. The BRA will include a biological survey per California Department of Fish and Wildlife protocols and determine the presence/absence of suitable habitat for special-status species. The BRA will discuss potential impacts to biological resources and provide proposed avoidance and mitigation measures. Through the implementation of avoidance and minimization measures the Project will have no impact on special status species. The Project will avoid impacts to special status species through project timing. Activities will take no more than two (2) weeks to conduct and will take place between July 1 and September 30. This period is outside of the avian nesting season (i.e. February 1 – August 31), during the active season for giant garter snake (GGS) (i.e. May 1 – October 1), and outside the time period when non-natal Central Valley spring-run Chinook and steelhead juveniles may be present (i.e. November 1 – June 30).
