The Hearts for Sights Foundation (HSF) will partner with the Los Angeles Sierra Club, Bolsa Chica Nature Preserve, State Parks and several local organizations to provide the three types of coastal outings for the VIPs: 1) 9 Day Outings: On each day outing, HSF and its partners will transport 40-50 participants to a coastal site for activities that may include a hike or walk, inclusive yoga, and/or docent-led multisensory experience, lunch, and finally free time to swim or wade at the beach; 2) 5 Outings with Specialized Activities: The specialized activities outings will involve 25-50 participants depending on the activity. Participants will spend the day (or night) learning to kayak, paddle board, surf, or overnight camp with instructors trained to work with the VIP population; 3) Independence and Leadership on the Coast: HSF will organize two scavenger hunts, one in Santa Monica and one on Catalina Island, where VIPs will work in small groups to identify and seek out unknown community assets. Participants will also have time for free beach play and exploration. Lastly 3 VIPs will receive leadership training through the State Parks FamCamp program.
