The project would upgrade the lighting system at two tunnels (UC 53-1983 and 53-1959) on Interstate 5 (I-5) -South 5, at post mile (PM) 44.8-45.9. The project would include painting the tunnel’s interior and installing a Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) between the two tunnels, detection sensors, one camera, eight dome Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and two Maintenance Vehicle Pullouts (MVPs). In addition, roadway lighting will be added at the vicinity of the entrance and exits of the two tunnels and MGS will be installed near the vicinity of Tunnel Electrical Control Equipment Cabinet. Data signals from the proposed Traffic Queue Warning System will be integrated with the existing Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) in the Los Angeles Regional Traffic Management Center (LARTMC) on Route-2 (PM 18.7). The existing fiber optic communication system network will be used at the Communications Hubs on I-5 in Norwalk (PM 18.3), and Route-101 in North Hollywood (PM 11.8).
