The project is limited to: 1) the annual removal of herbaceous vegetation (primarily emergent and aquatic plants) and silt/sand/gravel (material) from in front of and alongside of the Montague Grenada Weir (weir) and the USGS measuring device. The removal of the vegetation will improve the efficiency of the USGS gauge readings that are relied upon for diversion and flow management of the Shasta River watershed. Specific vegetation removal work includes: removal of vegetation up to 100 linear feet above and below the weir structure on both banks; removal of material behind the weir; all work done with hand tools, excavator, and/or dump truck; equipment will not be operated from within the active stream channel; and all vegetation and material will be hauled to a location where it will not have access to waters of the state of California.
