Work will involve an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy that will use a multifaceted and adaptive approach that reflects available time and funding, land use goals, and the most effective removal method aimed at full eradication of the purple veldt grass. State Parks proposes to use a foliar spraying herbicide, Glyphosate (Rodeo and Habitat) and Methylated Seed Oil (COMPETITOR), applied using backpack sprayers. Care will be taken to avoid all native plants and a spray shield will be used when in close proximity to sensitive plant species. Treatment would occur prior to the rainy season and after the sensitive plants have set seed. Applications will occur for up to 4 years or until the infestation is eradicated. Label requirement and best management practices for applying herbicide will be followed.
