The project will result in the removal of an existing structure consisting of four corrugated metal pipes that are five feet in diameter and topped with concrete and asphalt. The existing structure is approx. 23 feet long and 27 feet wide. The existing approach roadway width is approx. 20 feet wide. The roadway and bridge currently accommodates two travel lanes. The existing structure was constructed in 1980 and is considered functionally obsolete. The Sacramento County DOT plans to replace this functionally obsolete bridge with a bridge that meets American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials minimum standards. The new bridge will be the same approx. length as the existing bridge but will be widened to have an adequate curb to curb width, shoulders, bridge railings, and guardrails. The project work area, including the new bridge and approaches, will total approximately 270 lf and will extend approximately 120 ft west and 150 ft east of Fruit Channel respectively. The new bridge will accommodate two 11 ft travel lanes with 5 ft shoulders for automobile traffic and will be constructed as a concrete double culvert bridge. Each culvert will be constructed of reinforced concrete and will have a ht of six ft and a width of 10 ft and the bridge structure within Fruit Channel will be approximately 30 ft in length and 36 ft in width. The new bridge will raise the existing profile of Apple Rd by approximately 1.5 ft. Apple Rd will be closed adjacent to the proposed work area to allow for construction and staging. Approximately 370 ft of Apple Rd will be closed off and traffic utilizing Apple Rd will be rerouted to Berry, Orange and Dillard Rds. The length of the detour will be approximately 2.6 miles long and Apple Rd will be closed to through traffic for approximately six months.
