Project is limited to repairing the existing concrete tunnel headgate bunker on the hillside above the Kern River, lightly grading to smooth out recently fallen rocks on the protective bench area above the bunker west of the river to reclaim its functionality of protecting the tunnel headgate bunker and diversion dam below, and dredging approx. 190 cubic yards of accumulated rock and sediment from the diversion pool immediately in front of the power house intake structure using a long-reach excavator staged above the river. To access the work area on the west side of the river, equipment will cross the river at an existing crossing approx. 150 feet downstream of the diversion dam. Minor rock relocation may be required to enable access to the crossing, but there will be no dredging or fill material added to the river channel. One sycamore tree measuring seven inches diameter at breast height (DBH) and 3 willow trees measuring two to three inches DBH will be removed. Equipment to be used during this Project includes 2 excavators, a dozer, rubber tire loader, and pickup trucks. Equipment will be staged in a previously disturbed area on the east abutment of the diversion dam adjacent to the work site and on the bench and bunker area on the west side of the river.
