The desert tortoise will be part of an outside living tortoise exhibit at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. This will be an interpretive display, offering visitors a chance to see a desert tortoise in a ""semi-natural habitat."" The 25'x 15' enclosure will be located on south-east corner of the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. The fencing will consist of lodge poles approximately 20' high and chicken wire secured to the pillar post by staples. A trenchline approximately 2 feet will be dug along the perimeter of the fence. The lodge poles and chicken wire will be installed to the depth of the trench to prevent the desert tortoise from digging out and/or causing any potential harm to the tortoise, which could result from the tortoise trying to push against the wire.
