The proposed project involves dredging of beach compatible material within the Federal Channel of San Diego Harbor, San Diego County, California. Changes to the project description from the March 2009 Final EA include dredging between September 15, 2010 and April 1, 2011, dredging of approximately 300,00 cubic yards of material, maximum dredging duration of 100 days, and the use of a hopper dredge or clamshell dredge. All other aspects of the project discussed in the March 2009 Final EA will remain the same, including the dredging of beach compatible material only, the proposed disposal area, and the environmental commitments. The primary benefits realized from the proposed project would be restoration of design depths and unimpeded navigation within the Federal Channel. Secondary benefits include the replenishment of the beach with placement of dredged material in the near shore to ensure that a pleasant shoreline environment is maintained for the public.
