As a result of gradual increases in the number of staff at SVSP, the existing parking facilities are proving to be inadequate, leaving staff to park in unauthorized and unofficial parking locations within the SVSP property. On several occasions each month, SVSP's parking lots are completely filled due to in-service training, staff orientation, and range training. Due to the shortage of available parking spaces, employees are parking in fire lanes, grass strips, and thorough-fares. This creates a risk of blocking emergency vehicles and an increased potential for vehicular accidents. The parking lot will measure approximately 200' by 150', and will contain 60 parking spaces. It will be located in a previously graded area on the northern end of SVSP, between an adjacent parking lot and two roads. Construction activities will include grading and compacting the existing ground surface, importing and compacting aggregate base rock, spreading and compacting hot asphalt concrete over the approximately 30,000 square-foot area, installing drain pipes, and installing a single pole-mounted light fixture in the center of the new lot.
