A roughly 10-foot by 10-foot by 6-foot high concrete basin will be constructed at the downstream end of the berm, and a narrow trench will be dug from the basin up to an existing upper wastewater settling pond for a return line and an electrical line. The purpose of this work is capture wastewater runoff if a rain event occurs within 24 hours following spraying before it can enter into the nearby watercourses. This project is within an existing facility and much of the work will take place on an area that has been previously cleared of vegetation. This project will not have a significant effect on the environment. Prior to reaching this conclusion, however, the Department first conducted an environmental impact analysis to confirm that no Exceptions exist at the project site which would preclude the use of a Categorical Exemption. The possible exceptions that CAL FIRE considered include (a) sensitive location, (b) cumulative impact, (c) significant impact due to unusual circumstances, (d) impacts to scenic highways, (e) activities within a hazardous waste site, and (f) significant adverse change to the significance of a historical resource (see CEQA Guidelines Section 15300.2). Field review by CAL FIRE staff confirmed that no exceptions apply which would preclude the use of a Notice of Exemption for this project. The Department has concluded that no significant environmental impacts would occur. Documentation on the environmental review completed by CAL FIRE is kept on file at CAL FIRE's Tulare Unit Headquarters in Visalia.",,,,,,,,,,,,
