A new bridge, with abutments located outside the top of bank, will be constructed within the same alignment. Prior to demolition, a coffer dam and bypass pipe will be put in place to bypass stream flow through the project site. The existing deck, railing and girders will then be removed. The concrete abutments will be demolished to an elevation slightly below stream grade. The streambank will then be graded to a 2:1 slope and armored with approximately 12-cubic yards of 1/2-ton riprap from the keyway along the toe of slope up to the new abutment location on each side. Cast in place concrete piers and abutments will then be poured for the new bridge. A 40-foot long refurbished railcar deck will then be placed on the abutments. The new bridge will increase the stream capacity at the location, and no tree removal will be required.
