Los Gatos creek is concrete lined through this stretch and the flow is controlled from Lexington Reservoir. The work will involve replacement of the channel lining by removing the existing concrete (approximately 300 cubic meters) and rock (approximately 2030 cubic meters) with heavy equipment. The total length of the project is approximately 150 meters. The material will be taken to an approved area for disposal. Los Gatos Creek channel will then be reconstructed using approximately 1130 tons of imported materials consisting of 470 cubic meters of new concrete, 76 square meters of class 3 permeable materials, 300 meters of perforated steel pipe underdrain, 570 square meters of filter fabric that will be added to the site. During construction the flow in Los Gatos Creek, which flows from the Lexington Reservoir in this area, will be diverted around the construction area using flexible plastic culvert pipe and an upstream sandbag coffer dam. During the period of April through June the Water District has the best chance of limiting releases from the reservoir and therefore reducing potential impacts. Therefore it is requested that we be allowed to begin construction on April 1, 2002. Flows will be diverted to one side of the creek while work occurs on the other side. The entire project is expected to take 3-4 months to complete. There are no listed species within the project area however the project will require the removal of three oak trees and a number of alders which have grown through existing cracks in the concrete banks.
