Cooling water is drawn from and discharged back to the San Joaquin River. The owner and operator of the CCPP, Mirant Delta LLC, has proposed construction of a 530 net megawatt combined cycle power generation unit, Unit 8. Unit 8 would be located within the existing CCPP site complex and will rely on the existing CCPP systems including plant process make-up water, wastewater treatment systems, cooling water supply, fire water supply, and other ancillary systems. As proposed, Unit 8 will require no new water intake or discharge structures. Cooling water from the operation of the existing Units 6 and 7 would be used for Unit 8, with no increase in temperature of the discharge as a result of the proposed project. The discharge of water to the San Joaquin River, a water of the United States, is conducted pursuant to a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES permit) issued by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Regional Board).
