Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has executed Lake
and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-SBR-47489-R6,
pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to Southern California Gas
Company (SoCal Gas).
The project includes hydrostatic testing of SoCal Gas Line 3000E, a natural gas
pipeline. Hydrostatic testing is conducted to measure the integrity of the pipe and is
performed during SoCal Gas’ safety and maintenance activities. Hydrostatic testing is
conducted by exerting short segments of the pipeline to higher than operating levels of pressure using water. Portions of the pipeline are excavated, removed from service, and capped at either end. The segment is filled with water after the natural gas is vented from the pipe and water pressure is increased to a high level and held for approximately 8 hours. Once the test is complete and no leaks or failures are detected, the segment is dried and placed back into service. The hydrostatic testing will occur across approximately 60.42 miles of 36-inch diameter transmission pipeline, first from Kelbaker to Ludlow and second from Ludlow to Newberry Springs.
