- The purpose of the project is to replace the existing 1-span, 163-foot-long through truss pinned open deck bridge. The existing bridge, constructed in 1929, has outlived its useful life and must be replaced for continued and improved passenger and freight rail service in the region. The bridge was damaged as the result of a derailment in 2017 and underwent emergency repairs and rehabilitation. For these reasons, bridge replacement is required for continued service on the Valley Subdivision.
