The purpose of the Project is to resolve a Notice of Violation issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife by upgrading stream crossings, decommissioning a road segment, and conducting remediation work at a historic cannabis cultivation site. The project will decrease sediment delivery to tributaries of Saunders Creek, a tributary of the Mattole River.

Reasons for Exemption
The project will restore deteriorated stream crossings with minor alterations that will involve negligible expansion of the existing crossings. Structurally deficient, undersized HOPE culverts will be replaced and upgraded with corrugated metal pipe culverts that are sized for 100-year flows. Stream channels will be cleared of fill and debris to restore it to its natural grade and hydrology.
