Document Description
To remove the existing single track, 4-span, 59-foot long timber stringer trestle-ballast deck (TST-BD) bridge with vertical concrete piers and concrete abutments and replace it with a single track, 3-span, 90-foot long prestressed concrete box (PCB) bridge girders on two bents. Each bent consists of six steel H-piles. Riprap will be placed at bridge abutments to provide scour protection.

The UPRR track runs parallel to State Route 99 and the bridge is located where the track crosses Miles Creek, approximately 1,700-feet east of the intersection of Healy Road and Vassar Avenue, just southeast from the City of Merced, in Merced County.

Board staff has determined the project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 2, Replacement or Reconstruction categorical exemption (CEQA Guidelines § 15302), because the activity consists of replacement and reconstruction of an existing structure and the new structure will be located on the same site and will have the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced. Further, none of the exceptions to the exemption in CEQA Guidelines § 15300.2 apply. Please note, the signed NOE is not attached.
