Document Description
Issuance of grant funding for the renovation and rehabilitation of the existing Amistad de Los Angeles, a four-story building for transitional reentry housing. The project will rehabilitate the existing 69 bedrooms (184 beds), bathrooms, service rooms, and common spaces, replace existing plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems, improve fire alarm systems, add air conditioning. and convert unused community restrooms to service rooms. The renovation project will add 3 new bedrooms (26 new beds, 14 in the basement and 12 on the first floor) and a community bathroom. No change to the overall building footprint or land use is proposed. The purpose of the project is to increase capacity and improve the standard of housing for individuals with histories of incarceration. The project will continue to serve the reentry population with an internal expansion and improvements to promote successful reentry and reduce recidivism.
