Document Description
DTSC approved the proposed plan for ordinance explosive munitions response site remediation of the former Goffs Campsite, MRS01 - Goffs Butte OE Disposal Area, as well as an earlier Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study for the site. The Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study and Proposed Plan present the remedial activities proposed for the site and environmental constraints, as well as the remedial action objectives, and an evaluation of alternatives considered. DTSC selected a preferred alternative for the former Goffs Campsite that entails access control and installing perimeter signs that notify people traveling through the area of the potential presence of Munitions and Explosives of Concern, as well as the desert tortoise. Project activities including driving two light-weight trucks along the paved perimeter roadways, stopping periodically, and manually attaching yellow warning signs to the existing perimeter fence. Sign maintenance would be included as part of the currently scheduled perimeter fence maintenance program. The project entails minor and short-term risks due to minimal field actions required. It is anticipated that project activities would require approx five working days. Soil remediation or MEC removal is not proposed at present to avoid a potential take of the desert tortoise or disturbance of their habitat. DTSC approved the proposed plan pursuant to authority granted under Chp 6.8, div 20, sec 25323.1 and 25356.1 of the health and safety code.
