Document Description
DWR's San Luis Field Division will clear vegetation in a 40 foot radius area associated with a buried 21-inch irrigation crossing that is no longer functioning. Once the vegetation is cleared, an area up to 10 feet deep will be excavated near the valve to locate the crossing. After the buried crossing is located, a new pipe will be tied into the end of it using hand tools. The new pipe will be touted upslope to the road; enough new pipe will be added to route the pipe over the West Stutz Avenue bridge crossing the Aqueduct. Once the new irrigation crossing is in place, an up to 15-foot wide, 10-foot deep area directly around the new tie-in will temporarily remain open for leak detection . The sides of this hole will be sloped to prevent cave-ins, and at least two 2:1 sloped ramps will be created inside the hole so that any animals that get into it can escape. The hole will be filled in once a temporary repair is implemented. The rest of the excavated area will be backfilled and compacted using the excavated material.
