Document Description
The demonstration is aimed to provide a visual for landowners to base their own land management goals, and to encourage landowners to make management choices that will increase the safety of their property and homes in the event of wild fire. Additionally, the site will be utilized as a reference for landowners that are asked to participate in current and future fuel reduction projects in the community. The project is cooperative effort between CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire, the MountainArea Safety Task Force, the Pine Cove Water District and one private landowner. The project is a re-entry into a previous demonstration fuel removal project executed in 2005 by CAL FIRE/ Riverside County Fire. The 5.9 acre area (compromising of two parcels) consists of an overstocked mixed conifer stand with a dispersed grass/shrub understory. The site will be thinned to appropriate levels as determined by a Registered Professional Forester. All trees and vegetation allotted for removal will be marked in blue by RPF. Additionally, model homes will be placed throughout the demonstration area, around which the stand will be treated to the specifications of PRC 4291 for defensible space.
