Document Description
Swanton View Rd is part of a rural community in northern coastal Santa Cruz County. The road access eight homes and dead-ends approximately 1 mile upslope with its intersection with Swanton rd. The overstory vegetation is primarily comprised of hardwoods such as coast live oak, tanoak, and madrone; conifers include coast redwood, Douglas-fir and Monterey pine. Understory vegetation is made up of hazelnut, poison oak, blackberry and shade tolerant tree species. Handcrews will create a shaded fuelbreak within about 20 feet of Swanton View Rd to improve emergency ingress/egress during a wildfire and conduct similar fuel reduction efforts near select homes in the Swanton View Area to reduce fire intensity and improve structure protection during a wildfire. In both cases, continuous understory vegetation will be removed; overstory trees will be pruned to a height of 8 to 10 feet from the ground. Cut material will primarily be chipped along Swanton View Rd; any material not chipped will be lopped to a height of 12 inches or less and scattered.
