Document Description
The project consists of annual trash removal within the Los Angeles River. On three Saturday mornings in April and/or May from nine until noon, approximately 9,000 people volunteer in Friends of the Los Angeles River's annual "Gran Limpieza", The Great Los Angeles River Clean-Up. Before the clean-up begins, a veteran site captain shall talk to the participants at each location covering environmental concerns with emphasis on avoiding nesting birds. Clean-up activities shall be conducted entirely by hand. A biological survey will be conducted on all sites before and after the event. On an average year, approximately 70 to 80 tons of trash is removed from the Los Angeles River.
