Document Description
In an effort to encourage consumers to utilize reusable bags and reduce plastic waste, the Single-Use Bag Waste Reduction Ordinance was passed banning single-use plastic bags and requiring a minimum charge of 10 centrs on any recycled content paper or reusable bags provided at checkout in the Town of Truckee. Single-use recycled content paper bags must be at least 40% post-consumer material, containing no old growth fiber and are 100 % recyclable while reusable bags are defined as those made of cloth or other machine washable fabric that has handles, or a durable plactic bag with handles that is at least 2.25 mil thick and is specifically designed and manufactured for multiple uses. The ordinance excludes restaurants and take-out establishments and single-use plastic bags for large format artwork, tires, dry-cleaning, produce, meat, and bulk items where limited alteranatives exist.
