Interstate 680 Southbound High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Gap Closure Project
FIN - Final Document
Present Land Use
Note: FYI Final
As the CEQA lead agency, Caltrans, in cooperation with the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA), is proposing to improve traffic operations and relieve congestion by closing the current high--occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane gap on southbound Interstate 680 in Contra Costa between Livorna Road and Geary Road. The HOV lane would be added through roadway widening and restriping of the existing roadway. The median barrier would be upgraded to meet current standards. The South Main Street Undercrossing would be widened to accommodate the HOV lane. The two existing combined retaining/soundwalls located between the Rudgear Road interchange and South Main Street would be replaced, and a new soundwall would be constructed at the edge of the shoulder of NB I-680, just north of the North Main Street interchange. All work would be within existing Caltrans and local street right-of-way.
