Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Game is executing Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement number 1600-2007-0410-RS, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the applicant, Qwest Communications International, Incorporated. The Sacramento to Olivehurst Build (Phase 2) project consists of the fiber optic extensions within the following six stream crossings in Yuba, Sutter and Sacramento Counties; 1) Dry/Grasshopper Creek, 2) Yankee Slough, 3) Ping Slough, 4) Curry Creek, 5) Magpie Creek, 6) Varano Creek. The project includes following objectives: - Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operation and placement of two, parallel 2" high-density polyethylene fiber optic conduits below the watercourses. HDD involves drilling a pilot bore-hole underneath the watercourse towards a surface target on the opposite side and back, reaming the bore-hole to the drill rig while pulling the pipe or cable along the hole. - Permanent structures include man-holes, or hand-holes placed at the entrance and exit holes of stream crossings, outside of the zone of riparian vegetation.
