Document Description
The operator proposes to temporarily repair a bridge over Sulpher Springs Creek in St. Helena, Napa County, Assessor's Parcel Number 027-020-051. The bridge was constructed in approximately 1905 and serves as sole access for 6 families and 2 vineyard operations. The bridge abutments have been severely undercut, causing instability and possible failure. To stabilize the bridge and arresting future undercutting, an excavator will collapse the existing undercut concrete and rip rap. Pieces of broken concrete less than 50 pounds in weight will be removed and new 1/2 ton and larger stone rip rap will be imported to fill the voids and to stabilize the banks and abutments. Once the bridge has been permanently stabilized or replaced, an SB 271 funded fish ladder will be installed to assist migrating salmon past the bridge, allowing them access to approximately 2 1/2 miles of prime spawning and nursery habitat above this location. Issuance of Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2001-0865 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1603.
