Document Description
The project involves the transfer and relinquishment of the existing portion of State Route 84 through central Livermore (Homes and First Streets) to the City of Livermore and the adoption of Isabel Avenue as Route 84. The relinquishment of this portion of existing Route 84 and the adoption of the Isabel Avenue corridor as Route 84 has been contemplated by the City of Livermore for some time and is specifically called for in the City's General Plan and Circulation Element (Circulation Element, City of Livermore, page 27). With the designation of the Isabel Avenue corridor as Route 84, the relinquishment of existing Route 84 would reduce central area impacts associated with trucks and through traffic on Stanley Boulevard and First Street (existing Route 84). The Isabel Avenue Corridor (proposed Route 84) is currently in various stages of construction and design. The portion of Isabel Avenue between Vallecitos Road (Route 84) and Vineyard Avenue was constructed as part of the Ruby Hills residential development and was completed and opened to traffic in April 2000. The portion of Isabel between Vineyard and Airway Boulevard (referred to as the Isabel Parkway) has segment of the Isabel Corridor will extend Isabel Avenue north of Airway and construct a new interchange with I-580. This final stage is currently in the Project Report/Environmental Document phase.
