Document Description
The existing WWTP is near capacity and has insufficient hydraulic and organic capacity to adequately treat current wastewater flows and organic loading. Additionally, a portion of the existing collection system is old and is subject to excessive rain-derived inflow and infiltration (RDII). During the rainy season, excessive RDII has caused sewer manhole overflows in some areas of the system as well as hydraulic overflows at the WWTP. These overflows are not permitted under the current NPDES permit for the WWTP. Del Norte County recently completed improvements to the collection system piping within CSA which has reduced the effects of RDII. The City is has initiated collection system improvements to reduce the effects of RDII. The City and the County of Del Norte are in the process of completing a Community Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment Feasibility Study. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the development of a long-term community wastewater management plan, which includes the possibilty of placing new treatment and disposal facilities at other locations.
